Parents can get supplies help from Butler Catholic Charities

The Butler office of the Catholic Charities of Pittsburgh started a monthly distributions offering diaper and women’s hygiene products earlier this year, aiming to fill a need in the community.

Amy Judy, pregnancy and parenting mentor at Catholic Charities Diocese of Pittsburgh in Butler, said the mentor program serves parents of children who are up to 2 years old, and the diaper distribution is another way of helping that population and more.

She said the nonprofit has long maintained its Roselia Parenting and Pregnancy Program, but this new distribution expands the existing program’s impact.

Judy said Tuesday, March 18, that people can be referred to the monthly distribution by a community organization like the Center for Community Resources or Totin Family Service, which each have offices in Butler. However, a person does not need to be referred to be able to receive items at the distribution, nor do they have to fit any income guidelines — they just need to call a week ahead of time to register.

According to Judy, the diaper distribution program is a collaboration with YWCA Butler and its Project Period. Catholic Charities provides the items from its office in Butler.

“The money comes from different donations,” Judy said. “Some of it is from grant money and donations, some of it is through Catholic Charities.”

The distribution takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first Thursday of every month at the Catholic Charities - Butler County office, 120 W. Cunningham St. Suite 200 in Butler.

Call 724-287-4011 to register for the distribution, or call 412-456-6912 to donate diapers.
