BC3 hosts career fair for students, job-seekers
BUTLER TWP — Job-seekers from high-school age and up brought their resumes to Founders Hall for Butler County’s annual Career and Resource Fair on Wednesday, March 19, at Butler County Community College.
More than 70 employers were at the career fair, ranging from national and regional brands, such as McDonald’s and 84 Lumber, to state and federal government agencies; as well as health care organizations, such as Independence Health System and UPMC, and even BC3 itself.
“We cover everything from manufacturing to health care to public service and education,” said Morgan Rizzardi, BC3 dean of students. “There’s a little bit of everything here.”
BC3 organized the fair in collaboration with Butler County Health Care Consortium, Butler Collaborative for Families and Pennsylvania CareerLink.
“CareerLink is an agency through the state of Pennsylvania that helps folks find employment, and they also help employers as well,” Rizzardi said. “It was just a natural partnership between the two agencies.”
While the career fair was open to students of BC3 — many of whom took advantage of the free sub sandwiches from Sheetz — job-seekers from the general public were also welcome to attend, and various high schools sent busloads of students.
“We did have some high schools come today,” Rizzardi said. “We had A-C Valley High School here today, we had Portersville Christian School here, and we also had a group from Ellwood City High School.”
The career fair also gave job-seekers an opportunity to have a professional resume photo taken, courtesy of freelance photographer Dylann Jaimes.
“I think it’s really important to get a good resume photo, because it reflects directly on who you are and your personality,” Jaimes said. “You can really tell a lot about a person through a picture, and I love being able to tell that story.”
