BC3 submits application to receive state funds for HVAC, lighting
BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Community College board of trustees applied to receive over $2.3 million from the state for projects at the regular meeting Wednesday, March 19.
The board voted unanimously to approve the submission of the Pennsylvania Department of Education Application for State Assistance for Construction of Community College Facilities.
If the college receives the money, it will be dedicated to updating HVAC and lighting in the Succop Theater and Science and Technology building.
“This building opened in 2002. It has commercial systems in it, but their life span is about 20 years,” Brian Opitz, executive director of operations, said. “They’re starting to become unreliable, and they’re not energy efficient. So we do have temperature challenges.”
Opitz said the reason for a lighting project is primarily related to increased efficiency. However, packaging lighting and HVAC costs together is cheaper than doing the two individually.
The next BC3 board of trustees meeting is set for 12:30 p.m. April 16.
