Butler County man involved in fatal harness racing accident at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows
A harness racing accident Wednesday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows in Washington County killed one man and left several others injured, including a Butler County man.
Brady Brown, of Slippery Rock, and three other harness riders — Jeremy Indof, Case Bateson and Aaron Merriman — were hurt in an accident that killed Hunter Myers, 27, of Ohio.
Myers was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital, where he died a short time later. According to a Daily Racing Form article Wednesday, the other drivers are “reported to be banged up but otherwise OK.”
In a Facebook post Thursday, the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association shared its condolences, along with many others associated with the sport.
“Hunter was a rising star in our industry,” the post read. “The Meadows racing community, and the entire harness racing industry, are deeply saddened by this tragic event.”
Myers was driving the horse Always B Royalty when a horse at the front suddenly broke stride, triggering a chain reaction that threw Myers from his sulky and “impacted five horses in total,” according to the Daily Racing Form.
The Meadows canceled all of its races on Thursday and Friday.
Brown did not immediately respond Friday to a request for comment about his condition.
