Jessie Leonard
Jessie Fowler Leonard, of Bethany Retirement Village, Mechanicsburg, Pa., formerly of Butler, died Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 101 years of age.
She was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School in Ohio, and attended Maryville College in Tennessee. Jessie received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Cornell University New York Hospital and a master’s degree in education. She was a visiting nurse in New York City, worked at Butler Memorial Hospital and retired as Butler Intermediate High School nurse.
Jessie is listed on the women’s war memorial in Washington, D.C., for her service in World War II. She was honored by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and Senate when she reached the age of 100.
Jessie was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and PSEA School Nurse Section. She was also a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in America in Butler.
Surviving are John E. Leonard Jr. “Ted,” and wife, Veronica, David Leonard and wife, Jayme, James Leonard, and daughter, Cathy Getch. Also, six grandsons, two granddaughters, one nephew, 14 nieces, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Leonard, who died in 2004; and one son, Keith.
LEONARD — Family and friends of Jessie Fowler Leonard, who died Thursday, March 20, 2025, will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dwight Dunn, of Westminster Church (PCA), officiating.
She will be laid to rest in North Side Cemetery.
