Delwood Road closed after downed tree gets caught on power line

A section of Delwood Road was closed to traffic Monday after a downed tree came to rest on a power line overhanging the street.

A “possible structure fire” at Delwood Road was reported over Butler County Emergency Services Dispatch shortly after 2 p.m., as the tree also came to rest against a house and represented a fire risk.

According to Scott Frederick, director of emergency services for Butler Township, the house did not catch fire. However, there were brush fires elsewhere on Delwood Road.

“There’s burnt vegetation on the ground that we extinguished upon our arrival,” Fredericks said.

Fredericks says he doesn’t know how the tree fell over.

“I don't know if it was wind, I don't know if it was just old and fell,” Fredericks said. “I just know that it fell and caused this.”

The Butler Township Volunteer Fire Department, VA Butler Fire & Emergency Services, Butler Ambulance Service, and Butler Township Fire Department were on the scene. Crews from West Penn Power were also called to the scene.
