High school sports roundup: Knoch softball tops Mars
Freshman Emersyn Jones belted two home runs and collected seven RBI in Knoch’s 11-0 softball win over Mars at Laura Doerr Park on Wednesday.
Kaila Purcell, McKenna Brailey and Marlee Fraser all added two hits.
Purcell pitched a gem, giving up one hit over four innings for the win.
Senior hitter Alfonse Semmler tallied 10 kills and Alec Teff contributed 11 digs and four aces for Butler in a sweep of Armstrong Tuesday night.
The victory was earned by scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-17.
Mason McCall dished out 21 assists and Andrew Slaugenhoup had four blocks for Butler (3-1), which travels to Seneca Valley on Thursday.
Seneca Valley split a Section 3-3A meet with Pine-Richland. While the boys defeated the Rams 77-73, the girls dropped a 78-72 decision. No other details were available.
Seneca Valley fell to Pine-Richland by a score of 3-2.
SV’s Gianni Varlotta defeated Ian Hurt in a closely-contested match at No. 2 singles (4-6, 7-5, 7-6).
In doubles action, the Raiders’ Paul Weis-Eric Chen topped Darren Lee-Arav Amin in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
