New Parkinson’s class being offered in Cranberry

A new class at Cranberry Physical Therapy intends to benefit those dealing with the effects of Parkinson’s disease.

Drumfit for Parkinsons is described as a free class that can help enhance mood, reduce stress, depression and anxiety, improve cognitive function and memory, increase range of motion and mobility, and boost cardiovascular health.

Cranberry Physical Therapy, which is a branch of MRS Physical Therapy, received a $15,000 grant for the new class from the Parkinson’s Foundation in August 2024.

The Parkinson’s Foundation gave more than $1 million in community grants for the disease across the United States. MRS Physical Therapy was the only business in the Greater Pittsburgh Region that received one of those grants, which ranged from a minimum of $10,000 to a maximum of $25,000.

According to a Parkinson’s Foundation news release, the grants are used to fund programs that educate and deliver exercise, reach those who are disease care partners and address mental health needs of people with the disease.

Drumfit for Parkinsons will be held at 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday in Cranberry. The classes will last one hour and will be led by a certified Drumfit instructor and physical therapist.

Participants can bring their own physio ball, which is required, or buy one from the facility for $16.
