SRU hosting Holocaust remembrance program
Slippery Rock University’s annual Holocaust Remembrance Program will feature an Auschwitz survivor and the daughter of another Holocaust survivor.
Art Gelbart and Debby Chudakoff will give a presentation at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, at the Miller Theater in the Performing Arts Center.
“Witnesses to the Holocaust: Survivor Art Gelbart & Second-Generation Survivor Debby Chudakoff,” the Holocaust Remembrance Program, is cosponsored by SRU’s college of liberal arts, music and history departments.
“It’s important for people to hear from individuals who have been mistreated and to understand their experiences as minorities,” Eric Tuten, an SRU assistant professor of history, and coordinator of the Holocaust Remembrance Program, said in a university newsletter. “Especially since firsthand and secondhand accounts of the Holocaust are becoming rare, we may not have the opportunity to hear these perspectives much longer.”
