Butler County Commissioners award senior center construction contracts
County commissioners on Wednesday awarded $5.5 million in construction contracts to build the Butler Senior Center at 215 N. Duffy Road in Butler Township.
When the new center opens next spring or summer, it will replace the current center, which operates three days a week in the Tanglewood Center on Austin Avenue in the township.
The general construction contract was awarded to Massaro Corporation of Pittsburgh. The company’s bid included a base bid of $3.13 million, a $125,000 alternative bid to add a pickleball court, and unit prices for alternate flooring adhesive, remedial floor coating membrane, repointing concrete masonry block walls and replacing blocks.
A $1.22 million heating and air conditioning contract was awarded to Lugaila Mechanical of Pittsburgh, a $654,929 electrical contract was awarded to Alderson Crawford Electric of Mercer, a $321,800 plumbing contract was awarded to Newman Plumbing of Zelienople and a $121,300 fire suppression contract was awarded to J & J Protection Co. of Butler.
Each of the awarded bids were the lowest submitted.
The bids were opened in February and most were tabled for review, but the commissioners voted to re-advertise the general construction contract because one contractor withdrew its bid due to a clerical error.
