High school sports roundup: Seneca Valley, Karns City baseball earn wins
Ryan Piekutoski bashed a home run and had three RBIs in Seneca Valley’s 9-6 baseball win over Mt. Lebanon on Thursday. Luis Torrenegra went five innings and earned the win on the mound for the Raiders (2-2), striking out one and walking another.
Karns City 11, Mercer 3 — Troy Nagel went 2 for 4, had a triple and pushed across four runs in the Gremlins’ win. Jacob Jones gave up four hits and struck out four batters in earning a win on the mound.
Clare Kotwica and Sam Foley combined to drive in five runs in during a 12-0 North Catholic win over Ambridge in five innings.
Armstrong 16, Freeport 5 — Addy Caruso hit a home run and Leah Clark and Grace Palko both doubled, but it wasn’t enough for the Yellowjackets.
A-C Valley 16, Youngsville 0 — Alivya Hartzell, Emerson Stevens, and Maddy Dehart all had multi-RBI performances in the Falcons’ decisive five-inning win.
Norwin 4, Butler 2 — The Golden Tornado were out-hit 9-5 in the loss.
Cal Johnson and Evan Palmiero had singles wins and Max Palmiero and Lucas Crawford and Zach Wilfong and Jaxen Hittle had doubles victories as Mars beat Shaler 4-1.
Mars swept North Hils by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-21. No further details were provided.
Seneca Valley 3, Butler 0 — Andrew Slaugenhoup had six kills and Mason Anderson 16 digs for the Golden Tornado, who lost by scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-21. Butler will be back in action at home against Pine-Richland on Tuesday.
Mars saw 10 different goal-scorers in a 19-3 win over Sewickley Academy. Sophomore midfielder Hailey Long chalked up her 100th career draw control during the contest.
Drew Ross tallied a goal and six assists as Freeport defeated West Allegheny 20-0. Brayden Riddell had five goals and a pair of assists.
