The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has launched a new texting service to provide real-time updates for drivers stuck in unexpected traffic backlogs.

By texting “info” to 47676, customers will receive automated updates on incidents, estimated clearance times and road conditions.

Users will receive prompts to verify their backlog location using GPS. Following verification, the service automatically provides updates every 15-20 minutes, including what happened, how long it will take to clear and other road updates.

Texts stop after an incident is resolved, but can be restarted for new incidents by texting 47676 again.

The free service operates 24/7 and was developed through the PA Turnpike’s employee innovation challenge. It does not cover daily commuter traffic or construction delays.
