Police: Washington Township man in critical condition following robbery, assault

A 31-year-old man is accused of robbing and assaulting another man, leaving him in critical condition, before stealing and crashing his car in an early Friday morning incident that prompted a search in Washington Township, a lockdown at the Moniteau School District and later another search near a Grove City hotel, according to state police.

Dylan Hinchberger, 31, was taken into custody later Friday after police say he broke into 42-year-old Cody Roxberry’s Washington Township home early that morning.

Police said Hinchberger had forced entry into the residence before Roxberry returned home for the night and removed several firearms. He then waited for Roxberry to return, attacking and robbing him outside his residence, police said.

As Roxberry attempted to flee into the home, Hinchberger continued to assault him, discharged a rifle, and eventually fled by taking Roxberry’s vehicle, which he crashed into a tree five miles from the scene.

At that time, he fled the area on foot, police said.

Police tracked Hinchberger’s cellphone to the Quality Inn Hotel in Mercer County, but before he could be taken into custody, he fled second story window, into heavily wooded area, police said.

Eventually, Hinchberger was located and taken into custody, police said.

Roxberry is in critical condition at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. He was taken to Grove City Hospital before he was LifeFlighted to UPMC Presbyterian with serious head injuries, police said.

Police first responded to Stewart Road at about 2:45 a.m.

Police said there were no known threats to the community at any time in the investigation, however, Moniteau High School operated on lockdown for the day.

According to Trooper Bertha Cazy, the district acted on their own accord to initiate the lockdown and was not told to do so by law enforcement.
