College roundup: Slippery Rock names new women’s volleyball coach; Nate Malak named PSAC pitcher of the week
Slippery Rock named Dylan Lasher the new women’s volleyball head coach Friday.
Lasher is currently the women’s and men’s coach at Thiel College. He led the men’s team for five years and is currently 18-6 (10-0 Presidents’ Athletic Conference). The fall was the first time he coached the women’s team, going 17-9 to make the conference tournament after the team went 3-22 the season before.
Lasher, a Ford City native who played at Thiel, takes over for Erin Street, who coached one season and went 12-14 in the fall before taking over Carnegie Mellon’s women’s team.
Seneca Valley grad and Slippery Rock junior Nate Malak was named the PSAC Western Division pitcher of the week on Monday. Malak threw a complete-game shutout against Pitt-Johnstown last week, striking out nine against four hits and a walk in seven innings.
Slippery Rock’s Regan Johnson was named the PSAC women’s outdoor track athlete of the week on Tuesday. The sprinter won the Ed Fry Invitational 100-meter dash in 12.40, the top time in the conference so far this season. She also was on the winning 4x100 relay team and took fourth in the 200 in 25.84.
Slippery Rock’s Grace Rotter was named PSAC Western Division lacrosse defensive athlete of the week after forcing three turnovers, grabbing two ground balls and dishing out seven assists in SRU’s 20-9 win over Gannon last week. The assists were tied for second most in program history.
