Commissioners award park renovation grants
Butler County Commissioners Wednesday, March 26, awarded park renovation grants to 13 townships and boroughs.
The county grants cover 75% up to $10,000 toward the cost of a renovation project. The municipalities provide a 25% match.
■ Adams Township received $6,219 and provided $2,073 to buy and install additional signage for informational and safety purposes and to install an informational kiosk in the township park.
■ Bruin received $5,073 and provided $1,691 for picnic tables and a basketball backboard and pole at the borough park.
■ Butler Township received $5,437 and provided $1,812 for two combination soccer/football goals.
■ Clay Township received $5,356 and provided $1,785 for tables for people with disabilities.
■ Chicora received $5,838 and provided $1,946 for two backboard assemblies and removal of the old units at the park basketball court.
■ Cranberry Township received $7,500 and provided an equal match to upgrade basketball court equipment, remove the old equipment and install bleachers at the courts.
■ East Butler received $7,500 and provided $18,900 to upgrade restrooms and fixtures, a new security gate and rebuilding a press box.
■ Eau Claire received $6,096 and provided $2,032 for engineered wood fiber for all playground areas.
■ Evans City received $7,500 and provided $2,860 for sidewalks accessible to people with disabilities, sand volleyball courts, a children’s sandbox, playground mulch, stain for two pavilions, and primer and paint for three guardrails.
■ Harmony received $7,500 and provided $3,728 for a weed-resistant liner, new wooden borders, replenishing of safety fall chips at Swampoodle Park playground and concrete pads for park benches.
■ Jefferson Township received $7,500 and provided $8,250 to install a new electrical box in conjunction with a previously awarded Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant to upgrade the electrical service.
■ Penn Township received $7,500 and provided $5,466 for a pavilion with a concrete pad at the Harcrest Park ellipse that was funded by a DCNR grant.
■ Slippery Rock received $7,500 and provided $2,500 to remove gravel from the border of two playgrounds, excavation of 12 inches of topsoil, and the addition of mulch and concrete to connect two playgrounds.
