Social Security Agency softens identity verification requirements
The Social Security Administration is softening the planned changes to its identity verification procedures, which are now effective Tuesday, April 14.
Originally, the new procedures would have required those who are unable to use an online “my Social Security” account to verify their identities in-person at an office for various services. The newly-updated policy makes it so in-person verification is not required for individuals applying for Social Security Disability Insurance, Medicare or Supplemental Security Income.
However, the requirement still applies to those seeking retirement, survivors or auxiliary benefits, and who are unable to access their online account.
The date of implementing the new policy has also been delayed to April 14 from its original date of March 31.
