College roundup: Butler’s David Leslie, two Seneca Valley grads earn conference weekly honors

The following are local athletes who earned weekly conference honors:

Butler grad David Leslie, a senior pitcher at Grove City College, was named Presidents’ Athletic Conference pitcher of the week Monday after striking out a career-high 14 batters Saturday in a seven-inning shutout win over Geneva. He struck out the first six batters he faced, the last three he faced and lowered his ERA to 1.76.

Seneca Valley grad and Hiram senior middle blocker Kyle Martini was named the PAC men’s volleyball offensive player of the week Monday. He had 37 kills, 17 digs and 10 blocks in two conference matches last week.

Another former Raider, Elyse Kiggins, a senior goalie at Grove City College, was named PAC women’s lacrosse defensive player of the week after going 2-0 last week while allowing 10 goals for a .643 save percentage.

Slippery Rock freshman designated player Shaylyn Shall was named PSAC Western Division softball athlete of the week after going 9-for-20 with 10 RBIs as the Rock went 5-1 last week. She hit her first career home run.

SRU’s Leora Owings, a junior midfielder, was named the PSAC Western Division women’s lacrosse defensive player of the week after recording two goals, two assists, four forced turnovers, five ground balls and 13 draw controls in two Rock wins last week.
