Black bear spotted outside Middlesex Township home

A black bear is sighted in the front yard of the Roach residence in Middlesex Township, as seen from a doorbell camera. Submitted photo

The Roach household on Old Route 8 in Middlesex Township has become something of a magnet for black bears.

A doorbell camera captured a black bear roaming across the front yard of the home shortly after midnight on Monday, March 31.

“We have a doorbell camera, and a black bear came across my walk,” said Nancy Roach. “I had two shepherd’s hooks with bird feeders on them, and the bird feeders were pulled down.”

Roach says that neither she nor her daughter were in any physical danger during the encounter, as it happened while they were asleep.

This is not the first encounter that the Roach family has had with a bear. In September 2024, Roach called into the Butler Eagle to report a similar bear sighting at her home, which was also captured by way of the doorbell camera.

Roach believes that the bear that wandered through her neighborhood on Monday is the same bear she saw last year, although there may be more nearby.

“This one comes and goes from the woods in my neighborhood. This one is out foraging for food,” Roach said. “I only see this bear, but I have heard there are multiple bears in this area.”
