High school sports roundup: Butler track and field teams move to 6-0

Jocie Slesinski won the 400-meter dash (59.20 seconds) and the 200 dash (25.94) and was also part of the 1,600-meter relay that placed first as Butler’s girls track and field team downed Pine-Richland and Shaler in a tri-meet on Wednesday.

The Golden Tornado (6-0) beat the Rams 81-68 and the Titans 113-36. Aubrey Rock (long jump), Rania Lewandowski (high jump), Evie Paserba (pole vault) and the 400 relay team were also first-place finishers.

Butler (boys) 192, Pine-Richland 48; Butler 122, Shaler 22 — Thaddeus Mago won the 110 hurdles (15.86), Aaron Stebick the 400 dash (50.70), Kevin Shriver the 100-meter dash (11.10) and Jace Gratzmiller the 200 dash (22.23).

Jason Wick (pole vault) and Nicco Baggetta (javelin) won field events for the Golden Tornado (6-0).

Moniteau (girls) 97, North Clarion 51 — Bella Hernandez (discus, javelin) and Emily Matz (300-meter hurdles, long jump) were double winners for the Warriors.

Moniteau (boys) 89, North Clarion 60 — Trent Beachem came out on top in the 110 hurdles (18.0) and 300 hurdles (44.4).

Softball

Mars defeated Penn Hills 18-3. The Planets are now 2-6 overall and 1-1 in WPIAL Section 1-5A play.

Boys volleyball

Mars downed Beaver Valley Christian Academy in straight sets. No further details were provided.
