Fetterman introduces bill to enable SNAP benefits for striking workers
Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., recently introduced the Food Secure Strikers Act, which would allow striking workers to access benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Access Program.
Currently, striking workers and their households are ineligible for SNAP benefits unless they were previously eligible before striking.
“To protect workers’ right to organize, we must ensure they can put food on the tables for themselves and their families while on strike,” Fetterman said in a news release. “I’m proud to lead the effort to ensure workers never need to choose between fighting for fair working conditions and feeding their families.”
U.S. Reps. Alma Adams, D-N.C., and Greg Casar, D-Texas, introduced a companion bill in the House.
