Kyle Casteel went six innings on the mound, striking out a dozen, and Butler baseball earned a 4-3 baseball win over North Hills on Thursday.
Tanner Pry (1-for-2) had a double, scored a run and recorded an RBI in the Golden Tornado win. Nolan Stefaniak was 1-for-4 with a run. Trent Best recorded the save.
Butler moved to 6-0 overall, 3-0 in section play. It begins its three-game series with North Allegheny on Monday.
Samantha Montgomery won the long jump (15 feet, 7.25 inches) and triple jump (33-2) and was part of the victorious 4x100-meter relay (52.54 seconds) for Slippery Rock in a 80.5-68.5 win over Greenville.
Madison Gearhart won the 200 (12:52.6) and was also on the 4x100 relay. Karis McElhaney won the 1600 (5:04.14) and 800 (2:18.70).
Greenville 81, Slippery Rock 67 — Hunter Doerflinger came out on top in the 1600 (4:58.30) and 800 (2:08.18) and was also part of the Rockets’ winning 4x400 relay (3:39).
Karns City (girls) 111, Keystone 35 — In Wednesday’s action, Abigail Galan placed first in the pole vault (6-6) and 100 hurdles (17.3 seconds), and Ava Patrick won the long jump (15-9) and triple jump (33-5).
Karns City (boys) 119, Keystone 31 — Cole Johnston was a first-place finisher in the 110 hurdles (17.3 seconds) and 100 dash (11.2 seconds). He also anchored the 4x100 relay win in 46.1 seconds. Noah Weiland won the 1600 in 4:58.7 and 3200 in 11:14, plus he aided the 4x800 relay’s win in 9:23.2.
