Butler man charged in Oakvale Blvd. incident

A Butler man has been charged after Oakvale Boulevard had to be closed off and neighbors told to stay inside during his arrest.

Tyler Robert Cannon, 28, was arrested April 1 by the Butler Township Police Department. He was charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct.

According to a criminal complaint, Butler Township Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Oakvale Boulevard shortly after 2 p.m. April 1 for a husband, Cannon, and his wife fighting.

The complaint said according to the woman, she was having an argument with her husband, which turned into a disturbance where he pushed her. She then said she saw her husband go to the bedroom to load a shotgun, saying he was going to shoot himself. When the woman went into the room and took the gun from him, he struck her in the back of the head multiple times.

The complaint said the husband told her if she called 911, he would either kill himself or use “suicide by cop.” The woman then fled the residence with her children to their neighbor’s house, according to the complaint.

When Butler Township police arrived, the woman identified her husband as Cannon. According to the complaint, Butler Township police and assisting agencies shut down the road, secured the perimeter and told neighbors to stay inside while Cannon was called for with a PA system.

Cannon eventually came out the front door, dropped a pistol he was holding and was placed into custody without further incident.

Cannon was charged with two counts of misdemeanor simple assault and a count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

He was released from the county jail on April 2 after posting $40,000 bail.

Cannon will have a preliminary hearing on April 10 in front of District Judge Kevin P. O’Donnell.
