State awards grants for veterans services
The state announced $1,021,640 in newly awarded grants for veterans services Wednesday, April 2.
Robin’s Home will receive $40,000 to provide transportation, household essentials and other necessities to veterans in need and their families. Butler County Veterans Services will also receive about $6,000 from the grants.
The grants were awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs’ Veterans Trust Fund.
The grants will support 15 county directors of veterans affairs, as well as 24 nonprofits and veterans service organizations across the state. A news release from the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs said the funding will be used to address challenges Pennsylvania veterans face, such as food and housing insecurity, transportation and behavioral health issues.
The funding comes from donations, which helps fund the Veterans Trust Fund. Since the VTF grant program was created in 2013, over $8.5 million has been awarded to organizations serving Pennsylvania veterans.
