Richard ‘Dick’ Cox
Richard E. “Dick” Cox, of Zelienople, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
He was born Dec. 15, 1941, in Steubenville, Ohio, to Marvin E. and Lolita J. Cox.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 56 years, Sharon J. Cox (Anderson). He also leaves behind his son, Daniel R. Cox and wife, Dawn, of Evans City; and his daughter, Susan M. Vrabely and husband, Tom, of Evans City. Dick especially loved being a granddad to Ryan and Nathan Cox and Keira and Miranda Vrabely.
He also is survived by his brother, Wayne Hopper and his wife, Candy, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; his sister, Vivian Tam and her husband, Bob, of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; his sister-in-law, Carole Keller and her husband, Ken, of Scottdale, Pa.; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Carolyn Killion.
Dick was a kind and gentle man who always considered others before himself. God was first in his life; followed by family, whom he liked to keep close to him; then his work and volunteering. He was a teacher first, teaching industrial arts for the Southwest Butler County School District (Seneca Valley) where he helped design the shop at the new junior high (now Ryan Gloyer Middle School). He taught in all areas, but most enjoyed drafting, printing and photography.
Dick started The Minute Man Copy and Printing Center in Zelienople, the first quick-printing shop in the area to utilize the skills he taught. In addition, he owned rental properties, using his skills to maintain them. He later moved into industry, designing covered hopper railroad cars for Pullman-Standard in Butler. He then worked for Billco Manufacturing in Zelienople where he led the effort to bring computer aided drafting (CAD) to the company. After retiring, he helped Sharon with her business, For His Kidz, representing Christian entertainers for children and families. He was everyone’s encourager and cheerleader.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason with his lodge in Carnegie, Pa. When his kids were young, he coached Little League Baseball, girls softball and was a Boy Scout leader (a Life Scout himself). He was always active in his church, presently Grace in Cranberry Township and previously North Way Christian Community in Wexford, where he served as a head usher and deacon. He and Sharon also took three short-term mission trips to the Middle East. In everything he did, he had a servant’s heart.
