Maridon Museum to screen Indian film

The Maridon Museum will present a screening of the 2005 Indian film “Water,” directed by Deepa Mehta, at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16.

A 1938 tale of tradition and change, young widow Chuyia is cast into a harsh widows’ ashram by the Ganges. Its leader exploits Kalyani, a beautiful widow, to fund their survival. Narayan, a Gandhi follower, loves Kalyani — can she defy tradition to be with him? Shakuntala, the ashram’s conflicted moral core, wrestles with faith and fate. Can she protect them? Amid monsoon waters, will rebirth prevail, or does tradition drown all?

Seating is limited; call the Maridon Museum for reservations at 724-282-0123.
