Time capsule: Seneca Valley coach leads agility training
In 2008, Rob Naylor, who was the strength and conditioning coach for the Seneca Valley football team, hosted clinics focused on exercises designed to improve athletes’ performance.
At a clinic for children in kindergarten through the third grade at Haine Elementary School in Cranberry Township, Naylor began the session by making sure the participants remembered what they had learned during the previous workout. Then, he gradually introduced new exercises.
“The kids don’t seem to get disinterested because they’re always doing different things,” Naylor said. “I try to be creative. It's all about combining a lot of different elements to help each kid explore their own abilities.”
Also founder of Speed Matters Sports-Specific Training, Naylor has head and assistant coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels in basketball, track and field, and cross country, graduating from Slippery Rock University with master’s degrees in sports administration, and health and physical education.
“I also have a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology, which is what enables me to come up with the script for the clinics,” Naylor said.
