CLINTON TWP — Preschoolers and staff had to be evacuated, but nobody was injured after a vehicle up against the building caught on fire Friday, April 11.

Several fire departments responded to the Learning Village Early Childhood Development Center, located at 100 Deer Creek Road, after a vehicle caught fire outside of the building. Deer Creek Road was closed to traffic near the scene.

Christopher Dean, chief of Saxonburg Volunteer Fire department, said the car was “fully involved” by the time first responders arrived. The fire was out by 5:15 p.m.

Around 4:42 p.m., there was a heavy fire up against the building, according to Butler County emergency services dispatch. Minutes later, the fire had extended into the structure, according to the dispatcher.

Dean said the extent of the fire’s damage to the building is the first room on the right of the main entrance. The fire was able to get through windows near the car.

After the fire was under control, parents rushed to pick up their children.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
