City extends list of 2025 paving projects

The City of Butler announced which streets are tentatively scheduled to be paved this year at the Butler City Council forum meeting on Thursday, April 10.

The update came after council received bids related to the city’s ramp-sidewalk contract and paving contract. The bids to be accepted come from Shields Asphalt Paving and total $144,840 for the ramp-sidewalk contract and $600,733.45 for the paving contract.

The bids came in lower than expected, allowing more streets to be included in the paving project.

The new list extends work on West Wayne Street from Main Street to Chestnut Street, McKean Street between Route 68 and North Street, and Thomas Avenue between Roosevelt Boulevard and Holcomb Avenue.

According to the accepted draft of the long range plan for the city’s share of the sale of Butler Area Sewer Authority, $750,000 is expected to be allocated to city street paving in 2025. Between 2026 and 2029, the city expects to spend an additional $1,250,000 on paving.

The two contracts’ bids will be voted on at the regular city council meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 24.
