Butler County's great daily newspaper

Kelly needs to listen to his constituents’ complaints

I saw with pleasure the turnout April 5 for the Butler anti-Trump rally, along with a surprising amount of support from passersby in a county with only 27% register Democrats.

First of all, I share many Republican values, including but not limited to controlling deficit spending, stopping migrants from entering the country illegally, inflation, and looking for efficiencies in government. I am not for reckless policies by an administration with little and sometimes no experience, unable to foresee or have concern for unintended consequences.

I was surprised to have spoken to Republicans at the rally who said they voted for President Donald Trump once, and even one couple that admitted to having voted for Trump twice, but now know how dangerous Trump is to our country.

I heard many chant, “Where is Mike Kelly?” I have to wonder, does U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly love his elected position so much, and is he so afraid of Trump and Trump’s inexperienced administration, that he is afraid to speak out against what I feel he must know is reckless and dangerous management of our country?

It is time for Mike Kelly to stop pandering to Trump and his policies. I feel he must know those policies are detrimental to his constituents.

We cannot stop Trump, but we can pressure Congress to stop Trump. As dissatisfaction grows and the Mike Kellys of Congress begin to lose their positions, only then will we see Trump stopped.
