Zelie native receives SRU outstanding student leader award

A junior at Slippery Rock University and Zelienople native was named an SRU Outstanding Student Academic Leader.

Matthew Deemer was presented the Outstanding Student Academic Leader award for the College of Health Professions by its dean, Christine Karshin, at SRU's Celebration of Achievement ceremony, April 1, at the Smith Student Center Ballroom.

The university said in a news release these awards recognize students from each of SRU’s five colleges based on “outstanding leadership within an academic department or college.”

Deemer is involved with the pre-physical therapy club at SRU, a student coordinator for the exercise science research laboratory, a lab assistant, and a peer mentor and president of the fitness and wellness club at SRU.
