Larry Ball
Larry J. Ball, 84, of Chicora, passed away at his residence Saturday, April 12, 2025, with his loving family at his side.
Born in Butler on Nov. 3, 1940, he was a son of the late John H. and Louise C. Weiland Ball.
Larry was a 1958 graduate of Moniteau High School.
After graduation he worked for the Western Auto Company until its closing in 1979. He then attended the National Institute of Electronics in Washington, D.C. He opened his own business as an electronics technician and was affiliated with Graybar of Pittsburgh and retailed Sylvania products. He made many in-home repair service calls.
Larry owned Ball’s Beer Distributing, which he established in 1989, and which his sons, who worked with him in the business, will proudly carry on. Larry was deeply grateful for the support of his loyal customers, whose continued patronage developed into lasting friendships and provided treasured memories.
He served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard from 1960 to 1966, and he belonged to the American Legion.
He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.
Through the years, Larry was active in his church. He served as a high school CCD catechist and youth group leader. He sponsored students for TEC weekends. He was a member of the Cursillo movement, and he sponsored many candidates for Cursillo weekend retreats. He also served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Paul Church.
A member of the Gravely Tractor Club of America, he enjoyed repairing tractors.
Larry was also a happy “snowbird” in Naples, Fla., in the wintertime.
He is survived by his four children, Larry M. Ball and his wife, Laurie, of Chicora, Tina M. Ball, of Chicora, Paula J. Traymar and her husband, David, of Pittsburgh, and Danny R. Ball and his wife, Angela, of Chicora; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Gary Ball (Judy); and two sisters, Darla Terwilliger and Valerie Hilgar (Ray).
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Mary Atkinson Ball, whom he married Oct. 21, 1961, and who passed away June 8, 2024; one daughter, Nadine A. Ball; one grandson, Michael J. Ball; one brother, Frank Ball; and one brother-in-law, Wayne Terwilliger.
BALL — Friends of Larry J. Ball, who died Saturday, April 12, 2025, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave., Butler.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler, with the Rev. Kevin C. Fazio officiating.
Burial will take place in West Sunbury Union Cemetery.
