In preparation for the spring growing season, the Western Pennsylvania Garden Tractor Association will plow the Butler County gardens, located behind the county 911 center on McCune Lane in Butler Township.

Weather permitting, plowing will take place at 8 a.m. May 10.

In the event of rain, plowing will be delayed to May 17, or delayed further to May 24.

After plowing, avid gardeners can reserve a plot at the garden to plant their own miniature garden. According to Jennifer McIntire of the Penn State Butler County Extension office, each plot is about 30 feet by 30 feet.

“When they reserve a plot, it is reserved for this growing season,” McIntire said. “We give them a number and a tag, and they can start planting after plow day. They can begin gardening on the numbered plot that matches the number that I gave them.”

The growing season lasts until Oct. 31, when the garden plots must be cleared. Plots can be reserved by calling the Extension office at 724-287-4761.
