Kathleen Armstrong
Kathleen “Kathy” Ann Armstrong, 71, of Butler, passed into the eternal realm Saturday, April 12, 2025. She was at home with her loving husband, Dennis Armstrong.
Born in Pittsburgh on Jan. 15, 1954, Kathy was the daughter of the late Louis and Georgia Tobbe Arturo.
A graduate of Penn Hills High School and the University of Pittsburgh, Kathy worked as a secretary and as a computer analyst at PPG Industries. She was voted “Ms. PPG” in 1973.
Kathy’s passion in life was animals, especially dogs and horses. Upon graduating from high school, Kathy bought two horses and eventually a third, Twister. She trained and showed Twister, winning numerous prize ribbons and trophies across Western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio.
Kathy and Dennis married in August 1980. In January 1981, Kathy was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. MS cut short so many of her life activities and plans, including attending law school, raising rabbits, riding and showing horses, and having children. Her MS never went into remission: Kathy became wheelchair bound some 30 years ago and bedridden 15 years ago.
Kathy’s suffering across the decades was immense, yet her spirit remained unbroken to the end. She continued to engage in those activities that she was able to, including nurturing and spoiling her numerous nieces and nephews, collecting and repairing dolls, playing cards with family and friends, and listening to books on tape.
Over the course of the 44-plus years of Kathy’s illness, Dennis sacrificially cared for her with unconditional love. Notwithstanding Kathy’s debilitating illness, their home was filled with brightness and the doors were open to all.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Dennis; her brothers, Bob (Cindy) Arturo and Lawrence (Zeena) Arturo; her sisters, Patty (Tim) Tierney and Susan (Ron) Henshaw; her aunt, Dorothy Pinotti; eight nephews and nieces, Ian (Carolina Egas Arturo) Arturo, Brandon Henshaw, Cory (Sarah) Henshaw, Michael Arturo, Dakota Arturo, Rebecca (Nick Fischer) Arturo, Dylan Arturo and Bridgett (Garrett) Chandler; and 17 Pittsburgh and Louisville, Ky., first cousins.
In addition to her parents, Lou and Georgia Tobbe Arturo, Kathy was preceded in death by her Arturo and Tobbe grandparents; numerous aunts and uncles; her cousins, Dean Pinotti and Rudolph “Tody” Tobbe; and her niece, April Tierney.
Kathy’s soul, now freed from the cage of her mortal body, soars in her Lord’s imperishable dominion, ablaze with the fire of love.
“In the world of existence there is indeed no greater power than the power of love.”
