Superload could slow westbound drivers along I-80

Drivers should prepare for slow travels through northeastern Butler County if they get stuck behind a superload carrying 153 tons of material.

PennDOT announced Wednesday morning that the superload carrying an almost 28-foot-wide, 136-foot-long steel cone will cross briefly into Butler County along Interstate 80 before continuing its journey along the interstate into Ohio.

The superload will take up both highway lanes traveling at 25-30mph.

PennDOT said the route will begin in Allegheny County traveling on Routes 2037, 130, 48 and along William Penn Highway before crossing into Indiana County. From there, it will travel along Routes 22, 286, 129, 22 and 119 into Jefferson County before using Routes 436 and 36 to catch I-80 West into Butler then Mercer County.
