High school sports roundup: Slippery Rock baseball rallies to stay perfect on the season

Down by two runs to Hickory entering the fifth frame, Slippery Rock’s baseball team plated three the rest of the way and won 3-2. Casey Darr, Jake Kunsman and Doug Popovec notched an RBI each.

Austan Runtas pitched five innings for the Rockets (6-0), giving up two runs while striking out 12. Bryce Covert earned the win for Slippery Rock.

Softball

Lily Vicari and Kyra Olivares both accounted for two RBIs as Butler dropped a 14-4 decision to Hempfield in the second half of a doubleheader. The Golden Tornado were no-hit through three innings in an 18-0 loss in the first game of the twinbill.

Grove City 14, Slippery Rock 10 — Savannah Smith went 3 for 4 at the plate, including a solo home run in the seventh frame, but the Rockets bowed to their arch-rivals.

Boys volleyball

Mars lost in straight sets to Fox Chapel, the scores being 25-17, 25-18 and 25-15. No further details were provided.
