1 Marion Township supervisor seat up for grabs in election
One of the three seats on the Marion Township Board of Supervisors is up for election in the upcoming primary on Tuesday, May 20. The seat is currently held by Craig Pierce, with Robert Azzarella challenging.
Both men are running as Republican candidates and did not cross-file. This means that the winner of the primary will most likely be unopposed in the November general election. There are no Democratic candidates running in the primary.
The board of supervisors in Marion Township is a six-year position.
Craig Pierce
Pierce is a heavy equipment operator, who is finishing up his first full six-year term as a Marion Township supervisor.
Before that, he had served for a partial term. He was appointed to finish out former Supervisor Richard Carlantonio’s term.
Robert Azzarella
Azzarella said he’s lived in Marion Township for 38 years and is now retired. He said he’s driven a truck for the township for seven years and wants an opportunity to be a part of the township’s management.
Pierce: “I’d love to continue to improve the roads and the infrastructure.
“We're working on getting a water tower and replacing our reservoir. We’re basically improving the roads and just making the community a better place.”
Azzarella: “I just want to maintain the roads to what they ought to be and take care of the people and listen to them.”
Pierce: “The Boyers sewage project was a big deal and (Marion Township) got that completed in the last year. That was a big one.
“We had a $5,000,000 sewage project, we replaced the old one, and we added 70 new customers to Boyers. It’s a whole new sewage plant.
“Since I've been in, we’ve taken on a police department. We now use Harrisville Borough Police in Marion Township. Before, we had to count on the state police, and now we have a partnership with Harrisville borough. They put hours into Marion Township.”
Azzarella: “A lot of us in the road (department) are saying that we need to address the roads a little bit more.
“And like I said, taking care of the people if they have any questions or need anything. I figure I'd be available there to help them or answer their questions.”
