High school sports roundup: Alex Wilson breaks Karns City’s pole vault record at Seneca Valley meet
Karns City sophomore Alex Wilson reached 14 feet, 3 inches in the boys pole vault Thursday at Seneca Valley’s Marcie Peaco Freshman/Sophomore Invitational.
The effort not only earned Wilson first place in the event, it also broke KC’s 34-year-old school record of 14-2, set by Mike Landgraf in 1991.
Addi Gourley went 1-for-3 and scored Freeport’s only run in a 4-1 loss to Indiana, as the offense recorded just three hits. Ali Smith pitched 5.1 innings and struck out two in the loss.
The WPIAL announced the district doubles championships field. The tournament will take place Tuesday and Wednesday, with first rounds through semifinals on Day 1 and the finals and consolation finals the second day.
Butler’s Andrew Bocci and Ryan Conaway snagged the 16th and final seed in the Class 3A tournament and will face No. 1 Zidaan Hassan and Logan Memije from Gateway. No. 11 Mars duo Ethan Palmer and Cal Johnson take on Shady Side Academy’s 7-seed Sai Chaudhry and Kiran Tevar.
North Catholic has two pairs in the Class 2A tournament: 13th-seed Jake Sinclair and Paddy McCabe, both freshman, will face Valley 3-seed Lando Harclerode and Tyler Quinn; and Alex Weber and Alex Lopez Foubert are the 2-seed facing No. 15 Donovan Matsook and Charles Vuckovich from Central Valley.
