Group gathers to support President Trump in Butler
Car horns and patriotic music echoed through Butler’s downtown on the afternoon of Saturday, April 19, as about 20 pro-Trump demonstrators took to Diamond Park to support the current administration.
The group gathered around noon, with some adorning camouflage fatigues and American flag clothing. Some wielded flags, while others brought handmade signs carrying messages such as “Thank you Elon,” “Stand with DOGE” and “King Trump.”
As vehicles passed down Main Street, drivers voiced their opinions through car horns, with some arms extending out the windows giving a thumbs-up, and others giving a thumbs-down. The crowd cheered and waved at supporting passersby.
Zach Scherer said he organized the demonstration as a way for supporters of President Donald Trump to voice their love for his administration’s recent actions.
“We’re here to support our president,” Scherer said. “Lots of taxpayer dollars are being saved, foreign relations are better, so we’re here to make sure he knows what Butler’s made of.”
Another demonstrator said her goal was to show that Republicans are a majority, citing the results of the 2024 presidential election. She said she believes that Trump’s tariff plans and the Department of Government Efficiency’s goal of reducing government spending will ultimately benefit the economy, even if it takes a period of recovery.
While the rally remained peaceful, one protester voiced her disdain for the demonstrators’ message for a short time before leaving. She carried a sign reading “Racist Weirdo Freaks” with arrows pointing outward.
“We’re here to support Trump and his message,” Charlene Danner, another pro-Trump demonstrator, said. “We have someone here trying to call us racial. We’re not racial.”
