Heinz History Center hosting book launch
As the nation nears the 250th anniversary of the start of the Revolutionary War, the Smithsonian-affiliated Senator John Heinz History Center will host the official book launch for “The Year That Made America: From Rebellion to Independence, 1775-1776,” written by author and historian Tom McMillan.
The launch will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, at 1212 Smallman St., Pittsburgh.
“The Year That Made America” combines meticulous research with storytelling to reveal how a series of pivotal dates shaped America’s destiny. While July 4 claims the glory, the actual vote for independence came on July 2 — and even that historic moment almost didn’t happen. McMillan delivers a perspective on America’s founding that resonates with today’s political challenges.
McMillan will discuss his new book, which will be for sale at the program, and will sign copies for attendees.
Admission for this in-person event is $5 for nonmembers and free for History Center members. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit heinzhistorycenter.org/events.
