High school roundup: Trent Fleming lifts Union/A-C Valley baseball; Slippery Rock teams sweep Conneaut
Trent Fleming tripled twice and finished with four RBIs and three runs during a 3-for-3 day as Union/A-C Valley baseball dominated Reynolds 16-1 in three innings Saturday.
Chase Ruth, who pitched two innings to get the win, and Sebastian Link each scored three runs, and Colbin Elliott (1-for-3) doubled and drove in two runs. Alex Walzak (2-for-2) drove in two runs and scored another.
Slippery Rock 5, Conneaut 1 — The Rockets roped four doubles, two of them coming from Parker Dalcamo, to beat the Eagles. Dalcamo was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.
Jacob Kunsman fired six innings of one-run (zero earned) ball with five strikeouts. Connor Zorn, who also doubled, went 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Union/A-C Valley scored two runs on a fielding error off Brianna Anthony’s bunt, and Kya Wetzel singled home Lillian Hayden to lift the Falcon Knights to an 8-6 comeback win over Reynolds.
All three runs came in the sixth inning. Wetzel (2-for-4) doubled, scored and drove in three runs, and Hayden (1-for-3) scored two runs. Anthony (2-for-3) drove in a run.
Emerson Stevens struck out five in 1.2 innings of relief to get the win.
Slippery Rock 6, Hickory 4 — Despite giving up three runs in the sixth, the Rockets held on for the win. Grace Wetzel went 1-for-3 and drove in four runs, while Lillian Campbell (2-for-2) doubled, scored thrice and knocked in a run. Savannah Smith (2-for-3) also scored twice and drove in another run.
Joslyn Korcok struck out five in six innings for the win.
