Roy J. Seybert
Roy J. Seybert, 85, of Karns City, passed away early Saturday morning, April 19, 2025, while in the company of his loving family at The Sergeant Joseph George Kusick VA Community Living Center in Butler.
Roy was born in Sarah Furnace, Clarion County, on Feb. 27, 1940. He was the son of the late George E. and Anna L. Summerville Seybert.
He was a 1958 graduate of Freedom New Sewickley High School and served in the United States Army at Fort Knox and later in the United States Navy as a plankowner aboard the USS Enterprise, the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in the United States. He was a longtime member of the Dierkert-Ritzert American Legion Post 642 in Chicora and attended Chicora Alliance Church. He had been employed as a chemist in the laboratory at Penreco in Karns City, retiring in 2001 following 36 years of service. Roy was a skilled photographer and enjoyed taking wedding, family reunion and nature photos. He enjoyed feeding and naming the birds around his home. In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly J. Jones Seybert, whom he married in Kaylor on Dec. 14, 1961. Also surviving is a son, Roger J. Seybert of Karns City; two grandsons, Joshua J. Seybert and his wife, Elizabeth “Lizzie” of Bradys Bend, and Zachary W. Seybert and his wife, Britney, of Houtzdale. He was affectionately “Pap” to his great-granddaughter, Savannah E. Seybert. He also is survived by a brother, William T. Seybert and his wife, Ruth, of Mercer; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters-in-law.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Ralph; and five sisters, Lois, Annabelle, Karen, Barbara and Doris.
SEYBERT — Friends of Roy J. Seybert, who died Saturday, April 19, 2025, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at HILE FUNERAL HOME of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Thompson, pastor of Martinsburg Church of Bruin, officiating.
Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.
Military honors will be accorded by members of the Chicora and Bradys Bend American Legion Posts.
