Floyd Osborne
Floyd W. Osborne, 89, of Butler, a longtime business owner, passed away Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025.
He was born April 14, 1936, at his grandparents’ house in Branchton to the late James W. and Erma L. (Wigton) Osborne.
Floyd was formerly a Slippery Rock resident and was a member of Center Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and a trustee for many years.
He had the opportunity of attending the Slippery Rock Lab School for all 12 years, graduating in 1954, serving as class president and prom king. His classmates were like family.
Floyd married the former Joan Watson on Nov. 16, 1956, at the Unionville Presbyterian Church. They were married for 68 years. In the early 1950s, they met at Rock Falls Park in Slippery Rock — skating and dancing
They enjoyed boating and vacationing but mostly working at their store. The store was more than a business. It was friendships made over many years.
His strong work ethic began at an early age working for his father's trucking business. Later, he worked for McGowan Lumber in Slippery Rock for many years. In 1969, he then purchased the Bell Block and Brick Company in Butler, which became Osborne Builders Supply Company. He and his wife, Joan, ran the family business for 41 years.
During his early years, he enjoyed hunting with his Grandpa Wigton in the Branchton area and later with family and friends in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
In Slippery Rock, he was a member of the park commission and the Sportsman’s Club. In Butler, he was a former member of Rotary and Esquire Club and enjoyed the dances at American Legion 778 in Lyndora.
Floyd had the opportunity to tell many people about his near-death experience after an accident. He reassured many people of the unbelievable beauty, love and joy that awaits them.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Joan Osborne; three daughters, Tammy Osborne of Butler, Dr. Lou Ann (Dave) Sears of Cabot and Dixie (Ron) Ficca of Grove City; two grandchildren, Jamie Montgomery and Joey Ficca; and two great-grandchildren, Jarrett and John Alaburda.
