High school sports roundup: Moniteau/UAC track meet yields 3 broken records
Records kept falling in Wednesday’s track and field meet between Moniteau and Union/A-C Valley.
Ashton Grossman continues to raise the bar as the senior broke Moniteau’s school standard in the boys pole vault for the third time this season, vaulting 15 feet, six inches in the Warriors’ 83-68 victory.
The Falcon Knights’ Logan Skibinski broke A-C Valley’s school record in the 100 dash at 10.71 seconds.
Skibinski was part of another school record in the 4x100 relay. He teamed with Aidan Fox, Nick Ielase and Michael Yerkey — all from A-C Valley — in posting a time of 44.4.
Moniteau won the girls meet, 91-55 over the Falcon Knights.
Karns City vs. Cranberry (girls) — Phoebe Brandon won the high jump and 100-meter dash while Jessica Rodgers placed first in the discus and shot put to lead the Gremlins over the Berries 106-44.
Brandon was also on the winning 4x100 relay team.
Layla Colsey won the long jump, Ava Kamenski the 300 hurdles; both girls were on the first-place 4x400 and 4x100 squads.
Parker Dalcamo collected three hits and Bryce Covert collected three RBIs as Slippery Rock downed Titusville 10-2.
Austan Runtas worked a complete game for the win, allowed two runs (none earned) on two hits and struck out six.
Slippery Rock (9-0) hosts Franklin on Thursday.
Taylor Allderdice 5, Mars 3 — The Planets fell despite Vincent Gottschalk’s effort at the plate — 3 for 4 with two doubles and a run scored.
Danny Murray singled three times and scored a run for Mars (5-8), Bo Costanza had two hits and two RBIs and Grady Spiegle two hits, a run scored and one driven in.
Indiana 3, Knoch 1 — Pitchers Ryan Okopal and Mark Collinger combined for eight strikeouts and just one walk while allowing the one run to the visiting Knights on two hits.
Noah Glassic and Ryan McCurdy both singled for Knoch (8-9, 4-4), with the former scoring a run.
Indiana scored all three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Union/A-C Valley 18, North Clarion 3 — Colbin Elliott went 2 for 3 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs for the Falcon Knights.
Burrell 5, Freeport 4 — The Bucs plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good.
Chase Walker doubled and drove in two runs for the Yellowjackets (7-6, 4-4). Gavin Tola and Michael Hanz added two hits apiece.
Bella Gross smacked a home run and Liv Herrem went 3 for 4 with an RBI in Seneca Valley’s 3-0 win over North Allegheny.
Lexie Hames’ complete game included 18 strikeouts, four walks and two hits surrendered.
SV improved to 11-2 overall and 9-2 in section play.
Mars won the first set against Derry, then dropped three straight to lose 3-1 to the Trojans.
Derry won by scores of 25-27, 25-18, 25-16 and 25-19.
