Ruth Cooper
Ruth J. Cooper, 91, of Butler, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
She was born in New Castle on Feb. 21, 1934, to the late Samuel and Mabel (Moore) Leonard.
Ruth graduated from New Castle High School in 1953. She continued her education at New Castle School of Business in 1955, then at Butler Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. She was employed at Butler Memorial Hospital and Veterans Affairs Medical Center as an intensive care unit nurse.
Ruth was known for being dedicated, loving and very helpful. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Nurses Alumni Card Club, Women’s Missionary Society and the North Main Street Church of God 50 plus group.
Ruth was the beloved wife of Clifford Cooper, since their marriage on June 21, 1957; mother of Linda Alwine and Sharon Bartmas; grandmother of Lucas (Kara), Seth (Yvonne), Glenn (Michaela) and Shirley Bartmas, Jared (Aysa) and Judson (Alydia) Alwine, Justine (Justin) Barnett and Jasmine (Kevin) Karch; and great-grandmother of Emily, Lilly, Corbin, Colbi, Laina, Vance, Brook, Polli, Lydia, Alida, Betty, Justin Jr., Milo, Delilah and Azaliah.
Along with her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Bruner; and her siblings, Ralph, Samuel and James Leonard.
COOPER — All arrangements for Ruth J. Cooper, who died Wednesday, April 23, 2025, were made through SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler.
Family and friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at North Main Street Church of God, 1201 N. Main St. Extension, Butler.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, at the church.
Burial will be held privately.
