4 hospitalized after single-car crash in Fairview Township

Four people were taken to local hospitals as a result of a single-car crash early Sunday, April 27, near the intersection of Kittanning Pike and Chicora Road in Fairview Township.

The crash was reported around 2 a.m. According to Zack Hack, assistant chief of the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department, a black pickup truck ended up on its side in the middle of Kittanning Pike. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

“It seemed to veer off the side of the road right before it came to a stop,” Hack said.

Hack says by the time emergency crews arrived at the scene, all four occupants were out of the vehicle, alert, and able to speak.

Two of the injured were taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital, while two others were taken by helicopter to separate hospitals in Pittsburgh, Hack said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The crash resulted in the complete shutdown of Kittanning Pike for about two hours.

“The road (will) be shut down for a little while for cleanup and vehicle removal,” Hack said.

In addition to Chicora, the Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department, Sugarcreek Township Volunteer Fire Department, Butler Ambulance Service, East Butler Volunteer Fire Company, and Karns City Regional Ambulance Service also responded to the scene.
