Bill introduced to change Medicare co-pay at ambulatory surgical centers
Patients on Medicare may see a reduced co-pay at ambulatory surgical centers in the future, thanks to a new bill introduced in Congress on Thursday, April 24.
U.S. Reps. Mike Kelly, R-16th, alongside Robert Menendez, Jr., D-N.J., Troy Balderson, R-Ohio, and John Larson D-Conn., introduced the Medicare Beneficiary Co-Pay Fairness Act of 2025. The bill, if passed, will add a co-pay cap to ambulatory surgical centers.
Currently, patients utilizing ambulatory surgical centers and hospital outpatients departments typically face a 20% co-pay. However, only the outpatient departments have a set co-pay cap, leaving Medicare patients to possibly face higher co-pay expenses at over 6,300 nationwide Medicare-certified centers.
