Garage burns down from burn pile fire

JACKSON TWP — No one was injured Wednesday afternoon in a garage fire that is believed to have been sparked by a burn pile.

Firefighters from Zelienople and Harmony were dispatched about 2 p.m. to 609 Center St. Extension for the structure fire. Harmony Fire Chief Neal Nanna said a nearby pine tree likely caught fire from the burn pile, and the fire eventually spread to the garage.

Joe Frishkorn, who has lived at the residence for more than 30 years, said he was outside when he heard a “pop sound.” When he made his way around to the garage, he saw the fire and called 911.

“I tried getting the water hose and spraying the garage down but I gave up,” said Frishkorn, noting lawn equipment was stored in the garage.

The fire was put out by firefighters in about five minutes.

The garage was a complete loss, Nanna said.
