The Freeport 5

Starters score all points in 'Jackets' win

The Freeport boys basketball team made the most of its starters in Tuesday's game against Apollo-Ridge.

The starting five combined for all 84 points as the Yellowjackets outlasted Apollo-Ridge 84-77 in the section opener.

Brian Zimmerman had 26 points, six assists and five steals, Nick Rutkoski had 22 points and 13 rebounds, Nate Kotecki had 20 points and Brady Sherrieb had 11 points and nine assists for the Yellowjackets (5-1, 1-0).

The Vikings had five of their six scorers in double figures, led by Phil Shallenberger's 21 points.
