Pennsylvania American Water investing $4 million in county upgrades
Pennsylvania American Water is beginning a $4 million replacement of aging main waterlines in the county with a project getting underway in Butler on Wednesday.
The water company announced Monday that it will replace 4,600 feet of old main lines to improve service and fire protection by late summer.
Kicking off the effort is upgrading a water main along North Elm Street, from East Locust to East Jefferson street, in Butler on Wednesday.
Other upgrades planned for the city are water main upgrades on East Brady Street, Third Street, Brugh Avenue, Fairview Avenue, McKinley Avenue and Federal Street, Sullivan and Isabella streets, Ridge Avenue, McGeary and Gibson streets, Diamond, South Church and Saint Vero streets, and West Wayne Street.
Other projects in the county include replacing main lines on Meridian Road in Butler Township and Reiber Road in Connoquenessing Township.
Work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Work on weekends and evenings is not expected unless required to maintain the project schedule.
Customers may experience a temporary service interruption and slight water discoloring when crews connect the new main to the distribution system. Customers should run the water until it is clear.
Once the pipe is installed, a temporary restoration will take place in the excavated area. Final street restoration will be completed in the fall.
Company employees and contractors will follow CDC guidance for social distancing and hygiene while performing this work. Pennsylvania American Water is asking people not to approach employees or contractors for safety reasons. People with questions about the project can visit the utility’s website or call 1-800-565-7292.
