Sara Jessie Kern, 77, of Butler passed away on Saturday at her home.

She was born March 21, 1936, in Butler and was the daughter of the late Samuel P. and Emma (Hartle) Zurzolo.

Jessie was a member of the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting, farming and parties at the farm. She was always helping people. Mom always had a smile.

She owned and operated the Rock Ann Haven.

Surviving are her daughter, Linda Bates of Butler; her son, Kurt L. Kern of Butler; granddaughter, Teresa Davis; great-granddaughter, Victoria Lynn Davis; two brothers, Sam (Bonnie) Zurzolo of Butler and Robert Zurzolo and his companion, Sarahann Pugh, of Butler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry L. Kern, who died Aug. 17, 1992; her son, Lehnard Kern; a granddaughter, Sara Davis; and her sister, Mary Bowser.

KERN — Friends of Sara Jessie Kern, who passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013, will be received at the Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 6 until the time of the blessing service at 8 p.m. today.A memorial celebration will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Butler Township Park, 290 S. Duffy Road, Butler. Interment in the Greenlawn Burial Estates, Butler.Contributions may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.
